Christmas poem: The Light on a Tree

I love everything about Christmas, the food, the lights, presents, get togethers, and Rudolph is my favorite thing to watch. I sing right along with Burl Ives when the snowman is saying to “have a holly jolly Christmas”.

But with the Christmas season here, I just wanted to bring us in rememberance of what the season is really about. It’s so easy to get overworked, too busy with the business of Christmas, wore out, crunched in the crowds, and now we’re seeing people getting shot and robbed waiting in line to buy a playstation?!?

The first Christmas wasn’t any of this, it was really very simple – in an obscure little town on a night like any other, an event took place that on one hand was very normal; and at the same time it was an event that would forever change lives, hearts, minds, cultures, and the course of history. A baby was born – a baby was born to die – a baby died so that we could be born(again)...and the cycle goes on and on and on. Merry Christmas.

The Light On A Tree

Written by Linda DiBiosso 12/03

Christmas comes but once a year,
all wrapped in boxes and bows.
Could it be, that the lights you see,
will hang upon a tree?
With Tinsel and tassels, cherubs and stars,
eight tiny reindeer, and ho ho galore.
Strings of popcorn, and glistening things,
adorn the branches of this fine tree.
Oh, how the light shines bright.

But could it be,
that the light we need see,
came not with ribbons, boxes, and bows?
For a lonely star on Christmas night,
shone bright for the world to see.
And the true light was born,
that would hang on a tree.
The tree that hung the Light Of The World,
had no tinsel, tassels, or glistening things,
no cherubs, no stars, no red nosed reindeer.
How can the light shine bright?

T’was the love of a savior that hung on a tree,
His blood so innocent and pure.
That blood adorned this lonely tree,
to pave the way for you and me.
Will you look?
Will you see,
that blood on a tree?
Oh! How the Light shines bright.
